Elvira Torres refused to tell.
She knows who shot 19-year-old Horacio Pineda, a long-time friend of her family, who was found slumped behind the wheel of a crashed car, but she won’t tell authorities who it was.
The consequences of her silence: 22 years in state prison.
Torres, a 27-year-old mother of four, received her sentence this morning after a plea deal with various charges, including involuntary manslaughter. She received additional time for parole violations.
“I don’t understand how a mother of four small children is willing to take 22 years of her life, of their lives … in exchange for (not telling) the truth,” said Di Anne Gomez, Pineda’s mother.
